After seven months of hard work, the Youth Shadow Curriculum and Assessment Review panel presented their final report in Parliament on 8th July. They said:
“Our recommendations are evidence-based and aim to produce an education system which truly supports the diversity of students in England, and equips us with the skills we need in the present and future.”
Some of the report’s key recommendations include:
- Build skills and more relevance to life, including citizenship and life skills;
- Reduce the length and number of exams at GCSE;
- End SATs in primary schools;
- Introduce a national youth wellbeing measurement programme;
- Greater access to nature and play;
- Represent the full diversity of society.
The panel marked the release of their report with a launch event in Parliament which was attended by over 100 stakeholders spanning parliamentarians and government representatives, members of the DfE Curriculum & Assessment Review team, charities and campaigners, alongside educators, children and young people. They report that the response was overwhelmingly positive.
